Farmers in the district have reported that volunteers from 'Krishaker Batighar' have visited their fields regularly to explain the negative effects of tobacco cultivation, including the decrease in land fertility, the high cost and risk of copper use, and the physical and mental damage to farmers. This education has led to an increase in awareness and a willingness to switch to more sustainable and profitable crops.

As a result of this initiative, the cultivation of tobacco has decreased by 1000 hectares compared to last year. About 15 types of Rabi crops are now being cultivated in these lands, bringing both economic and environmental benefits.

The founder of 'Krishaker Batighar', Hossain Mohammad Sagar, explained that the organization spent approximately 17 field days in food grain production before the Rabi season, distributing 10,000 leaflets among farmers and conscious people in different villages of the upazila. Sagar expressed his hope that this work can be expanded in the future.

Ramesh Chandra Ghosh, project director of the Jessore Region Sustainable Agriculture Extension Project, praised the efforts of 'Krishaker Batighar', noting that the government has always been working to discourage tobacco farming through the agriculture department, but that social efforts are also essential.

Farmers in the Kushtia district are now enjoying the benefits of sustainable agriculture, and the success of 'Krishaker Batighar' in promoting these practices could serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.
